Body recovered off uShaka

25 June 2016 by Alan

At 07h11, Friday, 24th June, NSRI Durban duty crew were activated following a request for assistance from Durban Aquatic Safety following reports from a group of paddlers that they had happened upon a body floating off-shore of uShaka.

Police Search and rescue and local lifeguards were activated.

NSRI Durban coxswain Paul Bevis, who is employed by SUBTECH and is currently busy with a project in Durban Port, summoned the assistance of the Subtech boat Tarryn that was on the water at the time.

The duty SUBTECH skipper, who is an ex Sharkboard member, accompanied NSRI’s Paul Bevis to the area off Ushaka and assisted the SAPS Search and Rescue unit to recover the body of an adult male back to shore.

The body has been taken into the care of Police and the Forensic Pathology Services.

It has been confirmed that on Sunday, 19th of June, an adult male reportedly went missing in the surf off-shore of uShaka. Reportedly, despite a search by lifeguards and Police Search and Rescue no sign of the missing man was found. It is suspected that this may be the body of the man who went missing on Sunday. Police are investigating that possibility and have opened an inquest docket.
