Plans are in place for the rehabilitation and upgrade of Brighton, Ansteys and Treasure beaches in Durban’s Bluff area. The Municipality has conducted a study of the area and will be holding public participation meetings in October to determine the needs and receive inputs of the community who use the beaches.
This information will then be used to draft a plan for the area. The community can be assured that they will be fully consulted before any plans are implemented to ensure that the facilities provided meet the needs of the beachgoers. The Municipality will also take cognizance of the social, environmental and economic considerations in the development of the plan.
Besides being a vital business node, the Municipality has identified the South Durban area as a key tourism node and will be investing in the upgrade of the recreational facility to boost the tourism potential of the area. Over the next few years, as budgets become available, further infrastructure upgrades are also planned.
The SDB has many key attractions that the City hopes to look into as well as other opportunities that would build on the investment made in upgrading the Bluff beaches to showcase the area’s full potential.
