Metro Police will be strictly enforcing a ‘No-Alcohol’ ban at Blue Lagoon from this weekend following recent complaints of excessive noise from residents living nearby. The operation will also be accompanied by an education drive to sensitize people about responsible beach behavior.
Access control points will be set up during which time vehicles entering the area will be searched for alcohol. As the area is a ‘No alcohol’ zone, any alcohol found will be confiscated. Regular patrols will also be held to enforce the ban in case liquor gets smuggled in.
“Being a popular destination for family picnics and for out of town visitors, the beachfront is often seen as a place for people to have fun and relax. Metro Police will be out in full force to ensure that the bylaws and the rights of all people are not violated. The Municipality, including Metro Police is in the process of educating visitors and beach users about bylaws relating to proper conduct on our public spaces,’ said Senior Supt. Eugene Msomi, Metro Police.
“Buses and minibus-taxis will be referred to park at the Drive-in site, which will also be monitored to ensure that bylaws are upheld and that no anti-social behavior and disorderly conduct takes place here.”
Metro Police will always strive to ensure that the enjoyment of Durban’s beaches does not result in violation of bylaws and disorderly conduct.
