The Cell C Sharks Under 19s and Under 21s have their work cut out for them when they visit Emirates Airline Park in Johannesburg to take on their Golden Lions counterparts on Friday afternoon.
The first match of the day kicks off at 1.30pm between the Cell C Sharks Under 19s and the Golden Lions Under 19s in what should be a keenly contested clash between the juniors, particularly with so much to play for.
The Cell C Sharks Under 19s will take great confidence (and pride) from last Saturday’s 29-15 defeat of Free State in Durban and the win saw them leapfrog Free State into fourth position, with a handy four point cushion over the team they dominated and who now lie in fifth place on the log.
It appears that fourth place on the log will be contested by one of the Cell C Sharks, Free State or EP, with the Golden Lions, in third place, enjoying a 12 point lead on the log, while the Blue Bulls and Western Province have virtually sewn up a home semi-final.
After losing to Free State in a come-from-behind away victory for the junior Cheetahs last Saturday in their SA Rugby U21 Provincial Champs clash at Growthpoint KINGS PARK, the Cell C Sharks Under 21s will be well-aware of the need to maintain focus and remain determined for the full 80 minutes of their upcoming clash with the Golden Lions.
As things stand on the log, there is no one team forging ahead and building up breathing space for the chasing pack. Which means there remains a huge fight between six of the seven competing teams to finish in the top four. All six have a reasonable chance of making it to the semis with just the winless Leopards facing a battle that looks too tough to win.
The Golden Lions Under 21s are just three log points ahead and victory for the Cell C Sharks Under 21s will catapult them into a top four position. Their match kicks off at 4pm.
