Aiming for Success – Featured Durban Blog

31 May 2018 by Alan

Aiming for Success:

The Cell C Sharks XV travel to Welkom, the home of the Down Touch Griffons in their return leg away match of the SuperSport Rugby Challenge at HT Pelatona Projects Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The team have had a bye but will want to bounce back following a narrow, 12-10 loss to Free State two weeks ago, a tight match that saw the home side secure the two tries to one victory in Bloemfontein.

The first round match between the Cell C Sharks XV and Down Touch Griffons, played at JONSSON KINGS PARK, was a resounding 33-22 win and coach Ricardo Loubscher admits that he’s hoping for more of the same, with a few improvements for what he is expecting to be a hugely competitive match.

“They are a tough side, they are good with ball in hand and they can score plenty of tries so we need to be defensively on our A game.

“But very importantly, we need a good start. In our previous game against them, we had that but a few individual errors let them into the game. We will need to sort out those small mistakes, if we do, we should have a good game.”

He pointed to not having a good start against Free State two weeks ago as a problem area. “The positive to take out of that game was the bonus point, but we had a poor start, we allowed them to score early and from then on it was just catch up.”

He adds that the team are creating lots of opportunities, “We just need to be more clinical and accurate in taking them.

I’m also Very happy with our discipline, the team is in a good head space which showed against the Free State in the second half.”

He acknowledges that the Griffons are going to be tough away from home, “we know it will be tough, we need to dominate in the first 20 minutes and get points.

“It’s important to get back to winning ways, and although we’ll be looking to get a bonus point out of the game, we know it’s always tough in Welkom.”
