Abahlali again under attack in Cato Crest

5 September 2013 by Alan

The Abahlali write that in a violation of a recent court order Ethekwini Municipality is once again demolishing shacks in Cato Crest.

An Abahlali spokesperson reported today; “Despite both an undertaking and an Order of Court issued by Durban High Court the eThekwini Municipality is demolishing Cato Crest shacks right now. Comrades are under attack in their own homes.

“They have told the residents that they are the ruling party and nobody and nothing will stop them from ruling the city in the manner they want to.

“People have taken to the streets in protest. The tyres are burning and Bellair Road has been closed. Comrades are also under attack on the road blockade but the blockade is holding so far.”

Update: 6 protestors were arrested at the blockade.
