With just two days to go to the 7th Annual Living Legends Awards, eThekwini Municipality is ready and excited to stage yet another spectacular showpiece at the glitzy awards ceremony scheduled to take place on 05 September 2014 at Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre.
The event promises to be a night-to-remember filled with esteemed guests from the various spheres of government and different sectors of society. EThekwini Municipality is proud of the previous success of these awards and promises to deliver nothing less than an event of world class stature.
This event will be one of the first to kick start eThekwini Municipality’s Heritage month celebrations. EThekwini Living Legends Awards aims to honour the great successes achieved by past and present residents of the City.
The day’s activities will commence with this year’s Living Legend Awards recipients attending the Opening of the Living Legends exhibition at KwaMuhle Museum, 09:00. The exhibition will outline the various milestones achieved over the past seven years and also feature past awardees. They will then have an opportunity to interact informally with City leadership and media.
The Awards Ceremony will then kick-off at 18:00 at the ICC.
The 2014 Awardees are as follows:
Arts & Culture:
- Val Adamson – Renowned theatre photographer.
- Kim Mathews – Champion of Durban Music School.
- Muzomusha Lameck Chamane – Dedicated karate sensei.
- Jay Pather – Internationally accomplished choreographer
Academic:
- Rodney Harber – Architect.
- Felix Mshololo – Inspirational School Principal
Sports:
- Penny Heyns – Olympic swimming record holder.
Music & Entertainment:
- Themba Mkhize – Jazz Pianist
- Zibokwakhe “Phuzekhemisi” Mnyandu- World famous maskandi artist
Human Rights:
- Jeff Radebe – Anti-apartheid activist and cabinet minister.
- Paddy Meskin – Human Rights Activist
- Paddy Kearney – Activist for peace and justice
Community:
- Greta Schoeman – Founder of the Highway Hospice
In addition, two appreciation awards will be made out to the following organisations:
- Highway Hospice – For continuously providing care and comfort to patients with terminal illnesses and support to families and caregivers that have been affected by advanced incurable diseases within eThekwini Municipality.
- Willowton Group – For holding strong values in community and social upliftment programmes and sponsorships, essentially caring for those that are unable to care for themselves.
