On the 19th February 2015, Sgt Willow le Roux and WO Hendrik Ludick from the Port Shepstone K9 unit were on duty in the Shelley beach area when they saw a vehicle approaching from the opposite direction in Marine Drive. This vehicle was a white Mitsubishi Lancer. The two policemen were looking for this vehicle as it was suspected that it was used in the Theft of another vehicle, a maroon Honda CR-V, during last night in the Shelley beach area. The Honda was stolen from where it was parked by the owner. The two policemen made a u-turn and stopped the vehicle. Four occupants were found in the vehicle. Three males and one female were requested to get out of the vehicle. The woman (30) was found in possession of a pistol and eight rounds, which were unlicensed. The males, aged 27, 28 and 30, were also questioned and the two members were directed to a house in Marine drive, Oslo Beach. The members called for back up and Cst Cosmos Ngcobo, cst Oscar Msomi, cst Nhlanhla Majozi and cst Phili Kheswa from the Port Shepstone CSC responded. At the house in Oslo beach the stolen maroon Honda was found in a closed up garage. Another vehicle, a white Isuzu ldv, which was also reported stolen by the owner on 2015-02-15 in Oslo Beach area, was found hidden in another garage. Numerous tools were found in the vehicles.
It was established that the white Mitsubishi lancer was robbed from the owner in Pretoria area at gunpoint during December 2014. The vehicles and items were handed in for safekeeping at the police pound and police station as evidence and further investigation.
The four suspects face charges of Theft of Motor vehicle, possession of stolen property and possession of unlicensed fire arm and ammunition. Further investigations will be done to establish whether the suspects are involved in other crimes. Cluster commander Thembi Ndlovu commended the members for their vigilance and good work.
