On 28 November 2014, at 20:30, at the intersection of C Section, Ezakheni, four people were returning to Ladysmith from their business at the Eakheni Mall when they were attacked. Several gun shots were fired at their vehicle, killing three occupants and critically injuring a fourth. Nothing appears to have been taken. At this stage the motive for the shooting is unknown. Charges of murder and attempted murder are being investigated by Ezakheni SAPS.
In another incident that took place yesterday, at 03:00, three students attended a function at Alkantstrand Beach, Richards Bay for those who had completed their matric exams. The three students were allegedly stabbed to death. Its alleged that students attending the function became embroiled in a brawl which got out of control. Three victims aged between 18 and 23 sustained fatal stab wounds to their bodies. Three counts of murder are being investigated by Richards Bay SAPS. The deceased have not yet been officially identified.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni condemned the killings. “Parents should take precautions when allowing their kids to attend such functions. They must ensure that alcohol is not served to under aged kids and that there is adequate responsible adults to supervise the event. We are also appealing to the residents of Ezakheni to please come forward if they have any information regarding the attack that led to three deaths this weekend. It is unacceptable that people are killed in such a brutal manner and those who know who are behind the killings remain silent,” she said.
