3 arrested swiftly

12 November 2014 by Alan

On Monday, 10 November 2014 at approximately 14:00 the victim (25) was with a friend in a Toyota Quntam minibus taxi near the beachfront at Port Shepstone, when they were allegedly attacked and robbed by three men. A description of the suspects was circulated to all police vehicles in the area. Members of the K9 Unit, Tactical Response Team, Public Order Police as well as Search and Rescue Unit began looking for the robbers. Within an hour, all three men were arrested and charged with robbery, attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Items taken during the robbery were also recovered from the suspects. An unlicensed firearm believed to be used during the robbery was also recovered. The suspects were charged for robbery with aggravating circumstances and they will appear in Port Shepstone Magistrates Court soon.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the dedicated and hard-working team that arrested the suspects. “We appeal to the community to work closely with the police in the fight against crime by reporting the crime to the police immediately. Multidisciplinary task teams are on standby to react to reported crimes especially over this Festive Season and criminals will find it hard to conduct their business easily,” she said.
