Steers Ignites the Flame at Varsity Sports Finals:

Varsity 7s Winning Team UJ

Steers was at the forefront of painting Durban purple this past weekend as they payed #Respek to the devoted athletes and fans of Varsity Sports. The much-anticipated Varisty 7’s rugby and volleyball tournament was hosted at Durban’s Kings Park stadium from Friday the 1st until Sunday the 3rd Dec. After narrowly missing out of previous seasons, Tuks won the Varsity Volleyball Tournament. For the first time, UJ emerged victorious in the Varsity 7’s finals with 32-5 against Kosvies, serendipitously in front of UJ Alumni, Francois Pienaar.

Steers has been a passionate supporter of sporting excellence as a sponsor of Varsity Sports for the past 5 years. The brand activated at Kings Park stadium in their exclusive Chill Zone giving spectators a front row seat to all the action on the pitch. Spectators engaged in the Build Your Burger activation allowing them to build some life-size burgers in the quickest time possible in exchange for prizes.

Steers food trucks served burgers and chips to spectators that often-served food within seconds of placing the order. King Steer fans also received promotional items with their purchase. The stadium was filled with “Purple People” wearing Steers gear, amongst some shirts with the catchy phrase “If life throws you a burger, eat it”.

The summer weekend with jam-packed action took place in Durban for the first time in conjunction with Rage, The Sharks and the City of Durban. Over 10 universities from all around the country competed at the Varsity 7s leg of the tournament while six universities battled it out for top honours in the Varsity Beach Volleyball.

“We are thrilled to be back for this year’s installment of Varsity Sports. It really is an exciting time for us at Steers to a sporting event that provides talented athletes with an effective platform to not only showcase their skills but also groom them to become the future sports stars of tomorrow. The tournament has been thrilling to watch and we congratulate all the universities on their amazing efforts in the tournament.” said Adolf Fourie, Marketing Executive at Steers.

The exhilarating tournament came to a nail-biting close when Tuks where crowned champions with a 52-20 victory over UJ in Varsity Beach Volleyball. UJ claimed their maiden over Kovsies with a stunning 32-5 victory in Varsity 7’s Rugby.
