Project Dignity fun run and yoga class promotes community good health while empowering young women:

The Project Dignity/ Subz Pants and Pads team are looking forward to the fun run/ yoga class taking place on the Sunday, 17 November at the Shongweni Polo Club.

Project Dignity, in partnership with We Move Active, SMG Durban and Hi-Tech Sportswear, is organising a 5km Fun Run/Yoga Class for all ages to enjoy some exercise while supporting the NPO on Sunday, 17 November, starting and ending at Shongweni Polo Club. Walkers are also invited to bring along their (well-behaved) pups and dogs on leads, with proceeds from the four-legged participants going towards KZN Valley Dogs.

Project Dignity is a non-profit organisation which secures sponsorships for donations of Subz Pants and Pads. This eco-friendly, reusable pads and panty set will last one young woman up to five years, if properly cared for. Through school activations and community distributions, packs of Subz Pants and Pads (2 panties and 6 pads) are distributed to the most disadvantaged communities across South Africa, with distributions taking place in other African countries as well.

Created by KwaZulu-Natal resident, Sue Barnes, Subz Pants and Pads afford young women the chance to attend school without concerns regarding feminine hygiene products. For many residing in disadvantaged communities, the cost of sanitary wear means that young women go without these products for months at a time, forcing them to either miss school or use unhygienic alternatives. Through these donations, South Africa’s schoolgirls are empowered with dignity and secured a future through education.

Project Dignity has already donated 162 000 packs of Subz Pants and Pads to women since its inception in 2010. However, despite the ongoing monthly activations, the database of communities requesting donations from Project Dignity continues to grow, so there is always a big demand for the products.

“We really encourage everyone to come out and participate in the Project Dignity Fun Run/Yoga Class in support of this really worthwhile initiative,” said Sue Barnes, founder of Subz Pants and Pads, and Project Dignity. “This is great chance to improve your wellbeing in a beautiful, community setting while also showing solidarity with women, promoting education and supporting an environmentally-responsible initiative.”
