Mandela’s legacy shines through at Kingsmead:

The legend of the national icon Nelson Mandela was on show on Tuesday as Hollywoodbets Dolphins players, sponsors, management and staff welcomed children from the Durban and Districts Child Welfare to Sahara Stadium Kingsmead for a day of fun as part of their Mandela Day initiative.ChettyMandela

Jumping castles, mini cricket sets, hair spraying and music were on offer as the children aged from 2 to 12 enjoyed a day out at Kingsmead where they were the centre of attention.

The children were given the opportunity to mingle with the Dolphins players as they were shown a number of drills and games that kept them entertained throughout the day.

“This needs to be a year-long initiative and not just one day,” new Chief Executive Officer of the KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union Heinrich Strydom said.

“We want to create a constant culture of giving back to the communities and growing the beautiful game of cricket throughout our province.

“As the great Nelson Mandela said ‘Sport knows no boundaries’, and it is all about that for us.

“With all our diversity in this country we need to show respect for one another and use all of our resources that we have in this country.

“If we can do that then we will take this country to the next level.

“Sport gives you a wonderful opportunity to meet new people from all different walks of life.”

The Dolphins and Child Welfare Durban and Districts have sparked a positive relationship with players and staff getting involved in their Takkie Tax initiative as well as the Crazy Hats Fun Walk earlier in the year.

For Irene Okoye and Child Welfare it is a partnership that can only help them create more awareness for their organisation.

“The kids have had a terrific time mixing with the players and enjoying a day out.

“But this relationship with the Dolphins is huge for the organisation as we were looking for a team, club or business that has an established platform that we can use to spread the message of child welfare,” she said.

Title sponsors Hollywoodbets were very involved in the day’s activites. Sponsors of one day cricket in South Africa, Momentum, came on board to support the Dolphins’ efforts as well as Spur Steak Ranches.
