Frylinck takes 14 as Dolphins down Lions:

Robbie Frylinck finished with the best-ever match figures in franchise era cricket as the Hollywoodbets Dolphins beat the bizhub Highveld Lions by 77 runs on the third day of their Sunfoil Series encounter at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom on Thursday.

2016robfrylinckssappeal500The medium-pacer claimed three of the five wickets available on day three for second-innings figures of 6/32 in 16 overs as the hosts were bundled out for 149.

Frylinck grabbed an even more impressive 8/30 first time around to eventually end with a match analysis of 14/62, the best return since the inception of franchise cricket back in 2004/05.

The previous best match haul was by Kagiso Rabada two seasons back, when he claimed 14/105 in the same fixture that was played in Johannesburg.

Records aside, the Dolphins made it an impressive two wins from two as they needed less than an hour on the third morning to sew up the match.

The hosts had resumed on 126/5 and needing a further 101 for victory with their hopes resting on the shoulders of Kagiso Rapulana and Mangaliso Mosehle.

But both bell inside the first six overs – the former for an innings-high 42 and the latter for 4 – as the home side’s hopes faded fast.

Mthokozisi Shezi (3/44) picked up the other two wickets to fall as the Lions lost their last five wickets for just 23 runs.

The Dolphins now move top of the table after taking 17.06 points from the match, with the Lions taking just four points from the loss.

Maharaj the toast as Dolphins thump Warriors:

Keshav Maharaj returned the third-best figure in franchise cricket history as the Hollywoodbets Dolphins wrapped up victory by an innings and 70 runs early on the final morning of their opening Sunfoil Series clash of the season against the Warriors in East London on Saturday.

2016keshavmaharajnets500The slow left-armer had already taken 12 wickets on day three to put the visitors within touching distance of a fine at Buffalo Park.

His exploits on Friday, which saw him take 12 wickets to fall, had left the Dolphins just three strikes away from victory and they needed only 11.5 overs to do it.

Maharaj took just one of those, but still managed to end with remarkable figures of 13/157 in 58.2 overs, putting him behind Kagiso Rabada’s 14/105 and Dale Steyn 14/110 on the South African franchise cricket history list.

But they were the best ever figures for the Dolphins, beating the 12/96 taken by Kyle Abbott back in 2012/13.

The Warriors had resumed the final day on 132/7, but Andrew Birch (16) was out fifth ball of the morning to Craig Alexander, who took the other two wickets on the last day for figures of 2/43.

Clyde Fortuin (36), the joint top-scorer of the innings, helped take the hosts past 150, before he too fell to Alexander.

Maharaj then fittingly bowled Basheer Walters (7) for second-innings figures of 6/68 as the home side were all out for 178.

The result gave the Dolphins 17.14 points, with the Warriors taking just 4.6.
