In a weekend of high scoring games SA Home Loans Durban Collegians secured their second place on the Fidelity ADT Premier Division log with a 62-5 nine try victory march over their visitors FNB UKZN Maritzburg last Friday evening

Across on KP 3 in another high scoring game, Collegians neighbours, College Rovers kept their 13 point lead on the log in place with a mammoth 97-0 win over Standard Bank Richards Bay last Saturday, while Bidvest Insurance Crusaders beat their hosts eThekwini Refractories Amanzimtoti 28-16 securing third place on the log standings.

Durban Collegians had a comfortable 38-0 lead in the first half of their game against a young Varsity side full of courage that never gave up and were rewarded a try right on full time by Siabonga Novuka. Collegians were just too strong for the brave young men in white with wing Zomhuhle Mbona with three touchdown and hooker Matt Siba with two tries leading the charge. There other tries came from wing, flyhalf Duncan Campbell , flank Teigan Erasmus and lock Ntokoza Vidima

College Rovers made heavy work of their first half against Richards Bay only managing to get their bonus point try on the stroke of halftime. Leading 26-0 at the break they went in to overdrive in the second half scoring 11 of there 15 tries for 71 unanswered points with wings Charlie Mayesa and Sergio Torrens leading the slaughter with three ties each and making them the two top try scorers in the league. Their other tries came from Sinovuyo ‘Snakes’ Nyoka with two touchdowns and one each from center Alcino Isaacs, flyhalf Mondli Nkosi, loose forwards Jason Kankowski and Mesuli Mcwango, prop Ollie Dube, center Brandon Bailing and fullback Gav Scott coming off the bench. Nkosi slotted six conversions and Gav Scott three with Mayea and prop Thinus Volker one each

In the remaining game, also played last Friday evening, Crusaders enjoyed a 21-9 lead at half time against the South Coast Terriers of Amanzimtoti successfully securing their bonus point  in the second half with a 28-16 victory .

On Friday evening it will be the turn of College Rovers to visit Amanzimtoti while Varsity College face UKZN Maritzburg at the Peter Booysen Stadium in the Capital, while on Saturday Durban Collegians travel to Richards Bay to face the hard men from The Bay.

In both the First Division South Section and  Under 20 ‘A’ Leagues South Coast Warriors are still in the hunt in both competitions with Westville Old Boys still narrowly leading the way on the log in the First Division. The UKZN Durban Under 20 outfit, however,  raised their game last Thursday evening to edge out South Coast Warriors  24-21 leaving the fight for top honors and Frank Norris Cup glory wide open.
