Dolphins fall to dominant Lions in JHB:

Durban – The Hollywoodbets Dolphins fell to an innings and fifteen run defeat to an impressive Imperial Lions team in their CSA 4-Day Domestic Series match at the Imperial Wanderers on Thursday.

The Lions had been dominant throughout and the Dolphins were in need of some big scores to try and save the match on the final day as they were still 87 runs adrift with just five second innings wickets in hand.

The final morning seemed to be going according to plan for the visitors as the overnight batsmen Sibz Makhanya and Andile Phehlukwayo negotiated the first period.

However, Makhanya was the first victim after they had added 26 runs in the morning. He was adjudged LBW to Malusi Siboto for a well-played 76.

Seven runs later Phehlukwayo was dismissed for twelve. The Dolphins were 181 for seven at this stage, still 54 runs away from making the Lions bat again.

Keith Dudgeon and Rob Frylinck put together fifteen before the former was dismissed for thirteen off just eleven balls.

Frylinck stood firm at the other end as he lost Lwandiswa Zuma for five off 44 balls.

The big all-rounder was the last wicket to fall. He was caught behind for 28 and the Dolphins were bowled out for 245.

The end of the innings gave the Lions victory by an innings and fifteen runs.

The Dolphins will now take a break as the Mzansi Super League takes centre stage with the 4-Day Domestic Series resuming on 19 December when the Hollywoodbets Dolphins face the Warriors at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead.

Gritty Dolphins live to fight on at the Wanderers:

Durban – A 110 run second innings stand between captain Marques Ackerman and Sibz Makhanya helped the Hollywoodbets Dolphins to 148 for five at the close of play on day three of their CSA 4-Day Domestic Series match with the Imperial Lions at the Imperial Wanderers on Wednesday.

It was a tough day with the ball for the Dolphins who were unable to pick up the final three Lions wickets as the hosts declared on 495 for eight, a deficit of 260 runs.

Keith Dudgeon was unable to pick up one other to bag a magical five-for and finished with four for 115 in 32 overs.

It was a nightmare start with the bat as the Dolphins slumped to five for three with Grant Roelofsen, Jason Oakes and Cody Chetty all falling cheaply.

Ackerman and Senuran Muthusamy steadied the ship somewhat before the latter was dismissed for three, the score had moved to 31 when he was caught.

Sibz Makhanya then joined Ackerman and the pair began to repair the structural integrity of the Dolphins innings.

Both players went past their half centuries before Ackerman was run-out for 62, his second half century of the match, with the score on 141 for five.

Makhanya was left undefeated on 55 while Andile Phehlukwayo will resume day four on four not out with the Dolphins 148 for five trailing the Lions by 87 runs.
