100% Free Adverts for SA Tour Guides:

Tourist guides are the ambassadors of South Africa’s tourism industry. They are often the first, and invariably the last, person that tourists come into contact with and are therefore responsible for creating lasting impressions and fond memories of the country.

Following generous sponsorship from AB Marine and an Environmental TrustTour Guides SA now offer 100% free listings to any Registered South African Tour Guide.

The submission form is to be found here: https://tourguidesa.co.za/add/

Guides may submit a comprehensive amount of information to be listed and Tourism Guides SA sends potential clients DIRECTLY to the Tour Guides web site or online booking form.

Registered South African Tour Guides provide personal attention and the experience and knowledge of South Africa that only a native can offer. See well-known South African tourist attractions or opt to see “off the beaten track” locations, which will allow you to experience the “real” South Africa while sampling local hospitality.

Tourists to South Africa need to have peace of mind when choosing a Tour Guide. To that end South African registered tourist guides are now identified by new ID cards which all tourist guides are required to have in their possession whilst guiding. In addition the official tourist guide badges must also be worn whilst guiding.

The Registered Tour Guide ID Cards display a date of issue and are valid for a period of three years from that date.

Tourist Guide Code of Ethics states that a guide shall:

  • Tour Guide ID Card
Registered SA Tour Guide ID Card

be welcoming and demonstrate an enthusiasm for South Africa.

  • at all times show a willingness to provide optimum support and quality service to all tourists, and will give tourists an opportunity to enjoy or visit the desired destination.
  • in no way discriminate in rendering service to any tourist on any basis, e.g. race, gender, ethnicity, nationality, physical challenge, age, etc.
  • be impartial, unbiased and positive, and represent South Africa objectively.
  • be suitably dressed and presentable at all times.
  • be punctual, reliable, honest, conscientious and tactful at all times.
  • be a responsible driver, when driving as a guide.
  • carry out the programme/itinerary of a tour to his/her best abilities and be loyal to the company/organization that he/she is representing.
  • deal with conflict in a sensitive and responsible manner.
  • report any incident of injury or death to a nearby tourist authority or a police station.
  • be knowledgeable and shall assist tourists and not provide them with misleading information.
  • in the event of not being familiar with, or being unable to provide the information requested by a tourist, consult with the appropriate authorities for assistance.
  • at no time be under the influence of alcohol or a narcotic substance while on duty and shall refrain from administering any medication to a client without proper medical consultation.
  • never solicit for clients gratuities.
  • be concerned at all times for the safety of the tourist.
  • wear the appropriate tourist guide badge and will carry his/her registration card.
  • treat all people, cultures and the environment with respect.

TIP: When searching for a decent tour guide in South Africa – be it site specific, provincial or national – there are a few questions you can ask beforehand to make sure that you are dealing with the right person:

  1. Are you Registered?
  2. What is your date of Registration?
  3. What Tours do you offer?
  4. What languages do you speak?
  5. What provinces do you operate in?
  6. Tell me about yourself?
  7. Can you give me some referrals?

Also look at the potential tour guides web site – is if fresh, modern, regularly updated and check the Whois for date of registration (many years ago beats registered this year!)

Tour Guides SA offers most of the above information at a glance allowing potential tourists to make informed decisions.
